I think Willie Mays is the best all-around player of all time.

I would say Ted Williams or Joe Dimaggio. Joey D only had 369 career strikeouts! Wow.

Henry Aaron Willie Mays Mickey Mantle Joe DiMaggio Ted Williams

Ill go with Ruth. there are a lot of choices though...You could make a case for about 10-15 players for best ever.

Ruth.
Other considerations:
Clemente Robinson Gehrig Mantle Mays Williams Aaron
There are more as well. But you have to go with Ruth.

Good choices. I think Ruth is obviously right up there, but like I said, I still feel all-around Mays has a slight edge. I don't think Ruth would get 3000 hits. Then again, Ruth played in a much more difficult (the dead ball) era. So, it's difficult to compare him to anyone else.

Yeah I agree that Mays was possibly the best all-around. But Ruth basically "made" the game. Its tough to say what the game would be like without him.

Yeah, Ruth definitely changed the game in many more aspects. But, so did Mays. He pitchers' game plans. He was a feared hitter, he was one of the best CF of all time, and he was fast.

I believe the ballpark (Polo Grounds) was like 460 feet or more deep back there. I don't know how mays got that. The throw was just as good as the actual catch, too imo.
